7th July: Virtual Meeting – Colour Challenge Details

At last night’s well-attended meeting, after a showing of Barry Sampson’s “Desert Island Images” , Julia Wainwright took us through a presentation on the myriad aspects of the importance of colour.   It was a fascinating session and we look forward to seeing our competition images on 21st July.  The competition will be judged by Amanda Wright.

Next week’s meeting,  we have a talk:  “A Project Based Approach to Photography” by David Keep (from Derbyshire).   The subject has special relevance – which will be revealed in due course!

Have a good week and continue to stay safe.

30th June: Virtual Club Meeting – led by Julia Wainwright MPAGB ARPS

The large part of the meeting was devoted to the sharing of our  ‘Desert Island Images’ .  In the style of the famous radio programme ‘Desert Island Discs’,  each photographer submitted two images, choosing either their own work and/or an image that inspired them.  Each spent a few minutes going through why they were inspired, how or where they were taken, what memories they evoked etc.  It was a totally absorbing, informational and enjoyable evening – a very special event.

Julia revealed the last of this year’s four weekly challenges – “Colour” – and we look forward to rising to it!  The competition will be judged on 21st July by Amanda Wright from Ealing and Hampshire House PS.

We may still be in degrees of lock-down but our minds, imagination and ‘togetherness’ thanks to virtual meetings are free!

Happy July everyone – stay safe and well.

23rd June: Online Challenge #3 – Faceless Self Portraits Competition judged by Nigel Plant ARPS AFIAP DPAGB

Another bumper entry to our third online challenge was judged by Nigel Plant,  Hebden Bridge Camera Club in West Yorkshire; and as this was a ‘faceless’ self portrait competition he really didn’t know any of the ‘faces’!

Many congratulations go to Judith Gimber whose “I Spy” was awarded first place and her “Maranta Masquerade” second;  and to Judy Buckley-Sharp whose “Connected” was third;  Nigel awarded three images a highly commended and these went to Alice Kass for “Mesh On”, George Demetriou’s “Nice to See You Both”  and Ian Robert’s “Time for Reflection”.  Congratulations all.

Nigel did a good job critiquing each ‘person’ – quite a sensitive situation to be in!  He gave well measured comments and tips which apply across all genres.

It was an enjoyable and informative evening and thanks to everyone who entered, those who supported the competition by ‘coming along’ to view (and guess who’s who’!) and of course special thanks to Nigel.

All the images can be viewed on our Facebook page.

Watch this space for the next challenge…………

As we ease out of lock down,  stay safe, stay well.
