27th October: Annual Projected Monochrome Competition – Judge, Dave Russell AFIAP

Very many thanks to Dave Russell from Cardiff Camera Club who judged our competition this evening, critiquing each image informatively and gently!

We were able to use our ICPro software for the event and with a good number of images it was great to return to a ‘traditional’ method to score and share the images in our virtual world!

Congratulations go to Julia Wainwright for winning the Projected Monochrome Trophy with  “Starling Aerial Combat”;  in second place was “Terry” by Peter Keeble and “Chrome” by John Draper third.  Highly commended were “Art Theft” by Ron Churchill, “Black and White” by Judith Gimber and “Victoria on Skogafoss” by Alan Colegrave.  Well done to everyone.

Thanks to everyone for entering the competition and to Dave Russell for a very enjoyable and entertaining evening.

All the images can be viewed on our Facebook page but in pride of place here is Julia’s winning image.

20th October: The Art of Zoo Photography – Talk by Tal Chohan

Many thanks to Tal for his talk which was peppered with some of his extraordinary photographs taken in zoos around the country and in India.  His philosophy is to make creative/artistic images (in camera) expressing his personality as well as the animals he is photographing. Throughout the talk he gave top tips for achieving the best possible images in difficult situations particularly in zoos – wire fences, glass/reflections etc.

What came through strongly is Tal’s passion for conservation, tigers, ethics and good fieldcraft;  plus his artistic influences such as Van Gogh all of which contribute to his successful work.

So thanks again to Tal for a thoroughly enjoyable and informative evening.
