27th April: Online Open PDI Competition – judged by Kylie-ann Martin EFIAP, BPE2, CPAGB, LDPS.

Last night’s projected image competition was judged by Kylie-ann Martin, Great Barr Photographic Society.  Kylie-ann’s critique for each image was analytical, informative and sympathetically delivered making for a lively and enjoyable evening.

Kylie-ann held back many images before whittling them down to the top six.  Congratulations go to Julia Wainwright for her winning image “Little Tough Mudder” and second placed “Common Loon with Water Droplets”;  Ian Roberts’ “Seated Old Man” was third.  Highly Commended were Julia’s “Male Green Woodpecker in the Grass”,  “Easy Company Soldier” and “Servil” by John Draper.

Thanks to everyone for entering their images and for supporting the evening through cyber space and Zoom.  Very special thanks to Kylie-ann for her thoroughly entertaining and instructive judging.

20th April: Home Photography in Lockdown – talk by Justin Garner

Last night’s talk on home photography during lockdown illustrated Justin’s passion for photography and his ingenuity in constructing cost-effective ‘set-ups’ to achieve his vision. Justin has a number of awards to his name including Winner Of Outdoor Photographer Of The Year Small World Category 2017; Runner Up In Flowers & Plants Competition For Outdoor Photography Magazine Autumn 2017; Shortlisted For Outdoor Photographer Of The Year 2017 so to see his ‘behind the scenes’ work and thought processes was stimulating.  His project ideas incorporated documenting things that were happening around, ‘look and see’ what is close by.  Seeing his images across a plethora of genres gave us lots of food for thought as well as phrases like “fascination with something makes you think and use things in a different way – just being creative really”.

Many thanks to Justin for an inspiring and informative talk and a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

18th April: CACC Rosebowl Final, Rosebowl Stars and Phonography Competitions

In the Phonography competition, judged by Gordon Brown, Julia Wainwright’s “Lone Tree in the Fog” was highly commended.  None of our starred images were placed in the Rosebowl Stars competition which was won by the CACC Chairman, Martin Paten of Watford CC with “Dalmation Pelicans at Sunset”.   Watford also triumphed in the Rosebowl final, judged by Marilyn Roberts, pipping Amersham by just one point.  Harrow came in the middle!

Congratulations to all the highly commended and winning authors.

Who said “it isn’t the winning, it’s the taking part that counts”?  They were quite right of course!  – and we look forward to competing in the 2021/2 competitions.
