7th December: “Echoes of Silence” – Talk by Graham Harries

Many thanks to Graham Harries for his moving and thought-provoking talk “Echoes of Silence” – recording Chernobyl, thirty-five years on from the devastating explosion in Reactor No. 4 and the radiation fallout.  Although a sombre subject,  Graham’s poignant images and knowledgeable commentary were absorbing.  For the people living and working in the exclusion zone life is harsh;  but Graham found beauty amongst the bleakness and crumbling buildings, (some still with mosaics and stained-glass intact)  both in his trip taken in wintry March 2018 and his recent visit in autumn 2019.  Nature is reviving,  trees bathed in autumn colours and wildlife thriving even in the radiated countryside.

The talk certainly makes us all realise just how fortunate we are.

This is our final meeting of 2021.

Season’s Greetings and best wishes for a Happy, Healthy and Safe New Year.  We look forward to seeing you in January.

November 27th: Member News – Ian Roberts CPAGB

Many congratulations to Ian Roberts who achieved his well-deserved CPAGB Distinction at the weekend.

Onward and upward! 👏

30th November: NorthWest Fed Interclub Competition Round 3 – judged by Paul Burwood

Last night we hosted the third round competition between Ealing & Hampshire House, Park Street and Harrow.  Paul Burwood gave each image a thorough critique.  At the half-way point all three clubs had equal scores and although Harrow triumphed in the second half and won the evening, it was not enough to take us forward.  So many congratulations to Park Street who will compete in the semi-final match in the new year.  In this competition, for each round, individual images are awarded stars and these will be judged separately in the Final.  Happily, all three clubs have had one or more starred images in the initial rounds so the Final will be of interest to us all.

Congratulations again to Park Street and good luck in the semi-final.

Thanks to everyone who came along to support the evening and of course to Paul Burwood.

Next week is the last meeting of 2021.  We have a talk over Zoom – Echoes of Silence, Chernobyl 34 years later by Graham Harries.

Have a good week and stay safe.
