8th February: Workshop on Portraits and People – Mark Buckley-Sharp RPS(Hon) CPAGB HonPAGB and Avril Candler

Many thanks to Mark and Avril for last night’s informal workshop over Zoom.  Mark set the scene with a short presentation covering the gamut of ‘people and portrait’ genre – highlighting the differences and potential difficulties  using his and Judy Buckley-Sharp’s photographs to bring the subjects to life.

The second half of the evening was dedicated to members’ images.  Each person submitted up to three people/portrait images for discussion/feedback.  Avril showed each person’s selection as they explained their concerns etc. and together we explored each image in a constructive and helpful way.  Much more gentle and less stressful than hearing feedback in a competition!

Many thanks to Mark and Avril and to everyone for an enjoyable and informative evening.

Next week we have our fourth open projected image competition which will be judged (hopefully gently!) by Adrian Lines MPAGB FBPE ARPS.

Have a good week.

25th January: Talk – ‘Photography on the Darkside’ by Peter Benson ARPS CrGP AWPF CPAGB BPE3*.

Many thanks to Peter for his talk on urban nightscape photography in which he included a fascinating section on the history of Night Photography paralleled with his own family history and the important role they played in its development.   He generously included tips, hints and technical/equipment information as we travelled with him through his vibrant photographs  of the Thames in London,  his favourite places for night photography in the UK and some of the places he has been to further afield such as Dresden, Seville and New York.

Thanks to everyone who ‘came along’ to support the evening and again to Peter for his stimulating and entertaining talk.
