Very many thanks to Judith, Sanjay Mistry and Avril Candler for their presentations last night on ‘Photographing Strangers’. Each presentation was informative, thought provoking and inspirational; peppered with mixtures of great spontaneous images and shots where people had agreed to have their picture taken. So good to hear their experiences and learn from the tips they shared. The overarching conclusion being – be brave and ask, the more you do confidence will grow and technical and compositional challenges will get easier (!).
Thanks to everyone who came along to enjoy the evening – after all there was nothing much on TV………...3 nil!!

Next week we have a Members’ Evening on the subject of ‘Photographing Strangers’ – it promises to be an interesting and thought-provoking session.
Last night’s well supported competitions were judged by Alan Copeland from Whitchurch Hill (Pangbourne) Camera Club. Our definition of ‘Landscape’ is ‘images depicting the external environment and including, either singly or in any combination, the elements of land, water and sky. Other elements may be included but must not be the principal subject’. Open means anything that is not ‘landscape’; Alan’s critiques were based on these definitions.
Landscape: Congratulations to Trevor Alexander for his winning image of ‘Cliveden Parterre’, Judith Gimber’s ‘Gale Force’ was second and Avril Candler’s ‘Vancouver Island Sunset’ third. Highly commended wee ‘Basalt’ by Ron Churchill, ‘Bluebell Woods’ and ‘Hunstanton Cliffs’ by Dave Martin and ‘Dawn After Light Snow’ by YC Wei. Commended were ‘Farmsteads’ and ‘View From old Man of Storr’ by Peter Keeble and ‘The Road From Leh to Manily, India’ by Alan Colegrave. Very different ‘takes’ on this specialist subject.

Five images were highly commended: ‘Corn Snake’ by Dave Martin, ‘Horned Treehopper’ by Peter Elton, ‘Spotted Woodpecker on High Alert’ by Judith Gimber and ‘Market Trader Uzbejustan’ and ‘The Pterified Trees of Deadvlei’ by Alan Colegravee.
