2nd October: Simply Black and White – talk by David Jordan FRPS

Very many thanks to David Jordan for giving us his excellent talk on Simply Black and White photography.  David’s work is technically and artistically exemplary whether using pin hole, monochrome cameras or colour.    He is fortunate to have the gift of good colour recognition and the ability to ‘see’ in black and white.  As were taken through some of his beautiful images he explained his ethos – to produce creative and graphic images that are rich in texture and tone – and the processes he uses to bring his vision to life.

In the second half David braved a real-time session using Photoshop, Lightroom and Nik Silver Efex Pro to demonstrate the various ways of achieving a good monochrome conversion – not an easy thing to do over Zoom!  He made it look ‘simple’ but that’s years of  experience for you!  Many thanks again David for giving us such an interesting and informative evening enjoyed by all.  Very timely for us as we have a monochrome competition in a couple of weeks!

Next week we are back in Century for our Open and Portraits & People Print competitions which will be judged by Amanda Wright.

Happy October and have a good week.

25th September: Ron Wake Trophy judged by Kevin Day

Many thanks to Kevin for his comprehensive judging of this, our inter-club print competition for the Ron Wake Trophy.  It was a pleasure to welcome members from Ealing, Pinner and Watford to the event, the first in our new venue.  Regretfully, Field End were unable to compete due to ‘standstill’ traffic problems but hopefully they will be with us next year.

Congratulations to the Winner, Paul Mason of Ealing for ‘Catherine Wheel’ and to Watford for their many awards.

Thanks to everyone who came along to enjoy the evening and to Kevin for his excellent judging.

Next week we are back on Zoom for a talk – ‘Simply Black and White’ by David Jordan FRPS.

In the meantime have a good week and we look forward to seeing you soon.
