12th July: Annual Print Montage and Set Subject Competition, judged by Paul Burwood LRPS, CPAGB, QPSA, BPE3*
In our last physical meeting of the year we asked Paul Burwood, Field End PS, to judge not one but two annual print competitions which he did with aplomb.
This year’s Set Subject was ‘Every Picture Tells a Story’. With no set criteria the variety of subject matter made for interesting interpretations of the subject and Paul’s critiques. Congratulations to John Draper who won the Trophy for ‘Desperate Times’; Avril Candler’s ‘Goodbye No Claims Bonus’ was second and ‘Sleeper Class’ by Alan Colegrave, third. Paul awarded two highly commended and these were Trevor Alexander’s ‘Quick Or You’ll Miss It’ and Avril’s ‘Night Work’.
This is the first time we have run an Annual Montage competition where images are assembled as composites from multiple individual images that relate to each other (theme, story, statement etc.). Congratulations to Julia Wainwright for her winning print ‘Dance of the Veils’; Alan Colegrave’s ‘A Red Flower Lives On………….’ was second and ‘Thames Alien’ by Trevor Alexander, third. Highly commended were Julia’s ‘Moment of Contemplation’ and Avril’s ‘On the Scrapheap’.
We didn’t give Paul an easy task (especially in this heatwave) and his critiques were helpful and informative. So very many thanks to Paul for his judging, to everyone who entered and those who came along last night. Images from both competitions may be seen on Facebook
Thanks to everyone for their continued support over the past season, emerging out of lockdown took courage and it is great to be able to meet up in person again.
We take this opportunity to wish Julia and Ian well with their move and every success in the future. We’ll miss them both.
Our final meeting next week is our AGM on Zoom.
Have a good summer and we’re looking forward to the start of our 2022/23 season on 6th September.
